Are there any other costs?

Most services will come within the standard price but aditional work such as rot repairs, major putty work and glazing (if required) are charged as extra.

Why do I need add weight?

Nearly all sash windows require a few pounds of add weight if some of the glass has been changed during the history of the window

Why do you change the parting beading?

Parting beads get heavily coated with paint and this jambs the channels in whcih the sashes are suppose to travel. New parting bead improves the flow and the seal of the window reducing draughts.

The cost of a service (+vat) :

A sash window service costs from £59.99 for the lower PAIR of sash cords (it really is not worth changing one), and £89.99 for both upper and lower pairs of cord (full window service see 'service' for details). Add £10 more per foot for windows over 1700mm (5' 7") high or wide.

This price includes all the basic service materials and cords: but EXCLUDES pulleys, add weights, parting bead, staff bead or other materials if these are required.

Nearly all sash windows require a few pounds of add weight if some of the glass has been changed during the history of the window and most windows will be fitted with replacement parting bead as the build up of paint inhibits free movement of the sashes. We use a specially produced 28mm wide bead giving extra draught reducing benefits while retaining the orignal specification.

The average price for a full service for a 1700mm window with parting bead and add weight included is around £135.00 + vat. The sash cords (the weakest part of the mechanism) last in the region of 15 -20 years so if the window is painted properly you should not need to service the windows more frequently than this.

What is NOT included in your service?:

  • This is the service price only - if you have more complicated problems (e.g. windows do not fit, broken glass, broken or rotten wood etc,.) we will advise of the expected cost prior to starting work. Any repairs or adjustments to the sashes or their frames is additional and is charged at £35 per hour to the nearest 15 minutes.
