Generally Bristol's sash windows are in a good condition, most of them were well-built with good quality timbers and the level of ongoing maintenance has been good overall. Most common issues are windows that have been painted shut, or where glass has been changed causing the counter balance system to fail and the windows simply fall down. In both these cases the sashes need a service and usually re-weighting to open and close efficiently.
